My favorite Christmas carol is “O Holy Night”. “His law is love and His gospel is peace”–favorite lyrics from said carol. Right now I would have to say Kerrie Roberts is my favorite version of O Holy Night. My favorite newer song would be “This is Christmas” by Kutless.
I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new Hillsong tune- “Born is the King”- sang it with the kids in church service. They LOVED it too! You can’t sing this song and not be overwhelmed with smiles!
Favorite old carrol has to be oh come, oh come, Emmanuel
Big Daddy Weave’s arrangement is myt the momment.
They do a good job of changing it enough to be new but maintaining
The melody.
New song, Sweet Little Jesus Boy by Casting Crowns.
Favorite carol: O’ Holy Night
Favorite arrangement: The closest that I have heard is Michael Sweet’s version of it, but I have yet to hear my favorite.
New carol: While You Were Sleeping – Casting Crowns
1. That’s like asking, “What’s your favorite star in the sky?” But it’s probably O Holy Night or O Come, O Come Emmanuel.
2. Point of Grace does an absolutely beautiful rendition of O Holy Night. I also enjoy Scott Krippayne’s version of O Come Emmanuel.
3. It’s not Christmas anymore until I hear “God With Us”… multiple times… possibly on repeat. I’m also a huge fan of “Breath of Heaven” by Amy Grant, so it’s probably a tie between those two.
!. “Silent Night Holy Night” (“Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht”)…it is a peaceful song that reminds me of the peace of Christ
2. In English….I really like the Casting Crowns version. I also like the German version by Nana Mouskouri
3. This Is All I Have To Give the version sung by by Todd Agnew as a father myself, I can’t imagine what Joseph was going through. He’s one person I most surely would like to talk to when I get to heaven.
I also really like “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” by Trans Siberian Orchestra
Thanks for the good question!! Merry CHRISTmas everyone!!
I love the words to “Joy to the World” but it doesn’t sound too joyful when people sing it. I wish the music was more like the chorus of “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night–or an arrangement more lively and better fitted to the meaning of the lyrics.
I have two favorite newer Christmas songs: “God With Us” and “In The First Light” from “Do You See What I See” album. For me, Christmas finally came alive the first time I saw/heard the presentation of DYSWIS in concert, and it remains the BEST rendition of the Christmas story I’ve ever heard. Truly God-breathed.
I’m with Naz, do I have to have a favorite? Favorite traditional Christmas song might be “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” and I don’t care who sings it as long as it’s done well enough to follow along. Favorite new Christmas song? I love DYSWIS (as others have mentioned) and I’ve been listening to it lately…big suprise. Another favorite is: “Joy to the World” by Nicholas Jonas, that one always warms my heart. I’ve been enjoying Newsong’s Christmas CD lately too, but that might be because there are good memories attached to that one.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, and yes, I still plan to go over and answer that last question you posted, but not today.
Like others who have posted, I don’t know if I could say I have a favorite carol. I do have some favorite versions though. NewSong’s O Holy Night and Little Drummer Boy have become definite favorite arrangements.
Favorite newer songs: The Magnificat, God With Us, and In the First Light from DYSWIS; While You Were Sleeping by casting Crowns; How Many Kings by Downhere. I hope you and your family have a very merry and blessed Christmas!
Probably my favorite carol is “Little Drummer Boy” – I relate to it so very strongly “I have no gift to bring / that’s fit to give a king.”
I think my favorite version is one I heard on the radio, I think by Brenda White, that included an additional section “if I could play the flute I would, and I would play it oh so good, but I can only play the drum . . .”
Favorite newer song is a tough one. Amy Grant’s “Tennessee Christmas,” and Todd Agnew’s “God With Us” are the top contenders in my head right now. and I LOVE the version of “In The First Light” on DYSWIS – love that whole CD.
Todd, you & your music have been such a rich source of blessing, especially as we listen to “Do You See What I See?” Well, on to the questions:
1. Tough to separate out just one, but would probably have to b “Joy To The World”
2. OK, hold on to your seat: Will Vinton’s Claymation Christmas video (c) 1987… the combination of graphics + the great vocals amke this a favorite. So, you thought you were the only one who thinks outside the box?
3. This would have to be “Go Tell,” by Harrie McCullough, Kim Patton & Joe Johnston, (c) 1997, as sung by The Martins. What an amazing poke to all of us, as we follow the shepherds steps!
There are so many beautiful Christmas Carols with so much meaning, but “In The First Light” brings me to tears every time I listen to it. Todd Agnew sings it so beautifully!! Merry Christmas…Jesus is the Reason!!!
My favorite Christmas carol is “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” – When peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling and all the earth give back the song which now the angels sing.
Not very many people record it. I’ve mostly only heard it on classical or choir albums: Chanticleer, King’s Singers, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, etc. But my favorite version of it is the one my caroling group sings a capella in our living room.
My favorite new funny Chrismas song is “Christmas Can-Can” by Straight No Chaser – Christmas, Christmas time is here and Christmas songs you love to you. Thoughts of joy and hope and cheer but mostly shopping, shopping, shopping. 🙂
My favorite new serious Christmas song is (honestly!) Todd Agnew’s “Did you Know” – Did the cross cast a shadow o’er your cradle. Or maybe “Glory to God” – can’t wait to stage that one. Also, Dan Burgess’ “The Child of Bethlehem” – The Lamb, for sinners slain, bore the shame of all, the world to see. The child of Bethlehem died for me.
I have two favorite carols,
The Little Drummer Boy, Mandisa’s arrangement
NeedToBreathe’s version of Go Tell It On The Mountain
And favorite newer christmas song, is ‘I hope this gets to you’ by the Daylights
🙂
Fave carol- O Holy Night
The new Attwater version- because it’s a worship tune. His law is love & His gospel is peace.
Joseph’s lullaby- MercyMe
I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new Hillsong tune- “Born is the King”- sang it with the kids in church service. They LOVED it too! You can’t sing this song and not be overwhelmed with smiles!
“O Come, O Come Emmanuel”
I love the instrumental version on the “Behold The Lamb of God” CD and DVD.
“I Will Find A Way” Andy Gullahorn;Jason Gray
Favorite old carrol has to be oh come, oh come, Emmanuel

Favorite carol: It’s a toss-up between “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “Silent Night”
Favorite version: Any that’s done with feeling.
Favorite new song: “Winter Snow”

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. Suzy Boggus version. Google the story behind the lyrics.
