Okay, the secret is out. I’m a horrible blogger. Well I might be passingly fair when I do blog, but I don’t do it much. I can’t see why what I’m thinking is worth your time. Admittedly I’ve had the same problem in most of my relationships. They call it a failure to communicate. I don’t think of it as a failure as much as a ‘never tried’. I’m learning to do it better in my marriage, so maybe I can apply those lessons here as well.
The main thing I’m missing is having any idea as to what you would want to read about, and more importantly what topics you would want to be part of the conversation. We don’t know when the record is going to come out. So the blogs about songs will come closer to that date. I’m sure some of what I teach this summer will find its way here. But since I’m going to be gone at camp much of the summer, I thought I would go ahead and ask you what you would like to read about. What would you like to have conversations about? What topics are worth covering?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
And I apologize to everyone who checked my website all month and only got two blogs. It won’t happen again. (Until it does.)
Thoughts?
Todd
Is it just me or has everyone gone off the deep end? Christians have become so pompous and full of big words that I don’t know or understand. It makes me so tired…I want to be with people who love Jesus. Period. That’s it.
I would love to see you write about the music industry and how it relates to Christians. Any one who’s been around the seen can gather that it’s business that surrounds Christians. A necessary evil, if you will. The middle man, the merch people. The fans who put “you” on a pedestal…on and on….
I am new to the radio side of Christian music. I used to be just a fan. What do you think about the industry’s lack of willingness to get creative or am I alone in that thought?
Is like to know what you think about people wearing crosses on flip flops, skin tight see thru shirts, etc. May not be a big deal to anyone but me.
what do you find is more important of a worship leader, there musicianship or there daily walk with Jesus Christ? I have found that churches want the appeal of a great musician, which is fine, but they may not be a leader in there spiritual walk. Is this wrong? I know I that is sort of two different thoughts but I feel like they go together. Can you lead people in worshipping God in music if you yourself aren’t worshipping God tbhroughout your daily life?
I just like hearing whats going on in your life.. Your observations, situations youre going through, struggles, triumphs, how the family is doing, etc… I am a huge fan and just having the chance to read about what is personally going on with you is great.. And we (or at least I) dont expect to hear something from you every day. So dont get down on yourself for that. Just an occasional update on how you are doing would be great! I love that you are attempting to have a relationship with your fans. Its one of the things that I like about you. You are a very approachable musician and very easy to talk to!
Keep up the great work! Cant wait to hear the new album!
I agree with Mandy. Ive been following you since the Grace Like Rain Album and God through you gave me a love to worship God with writting songs from my heart to Him. I was at the opening of your Do You See What I See Album at Faith Music Coffee Shop and it was then when God layed on my heart to pick up a guitar, learn to play it, learn to sing for His Glory. So I guess I was about 13 years old when I first started following you, and you have made a huge impact on my life! I’m sure you hear this from many people so I apologize for carrying on. Anyway, I like hearing about your life. About an activity with your family that touched your heart and will never forget. Or certain songs that speak to you. Or songs that you recently have written. Even if you feel the song is junk, tell us about it and why you wrote it. Your songs impact people. God gave you the gift to write, and I believe we need to hear what you write! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Hey Todd,
I would just like to hear some of your random thoughts or things that happen in your day. Funny family stories are always good also. 😉 Throw out some of the questions in your music and see what thoughts are out there.
Love your music! Keep it up!
It’s ok if you don’t blog all the time, but it’s great when you do! You have good ideas that you’ve already shared. I always appreciate it when you share what’s going on in your life, when you give book and/or music reviews, and when you ask questions about quotes or ideas. It’d be interesting, also, to read about your camp and travel experiences this summer. What you write will be read, and is appreciated!
I am in agreement with the last 4 comments. I like to hear about you and your family, struggles, victories, just everyday stuff. Love your music and how your songs bring me closer to God. It would be interesting to hear about your adventures at camp this summer. Don’t stress so much about the quantity of blogs. When you feel like it and have the time is great. Don’t feel under pressure.
Thank you for sharing your gift from God to all of us.
I once worked for a newspaper where we were each given the assignment to write a column once every 5-6 weeks. That was the LAST thing I wanted to do. I tried to have a theme, but that didn’t work. I wrote about all kinds of things – some of the most well received were a column I wrote about my father and another on lessons I learned about being grateful. Just write from the heart – if you are thinking hard about something, chances are other people are, too.
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. There are some really great ideas here. They have inspired me so much I might just have to blog about it.
Todd
Hi Todd,
First let me say I can so relate to the ” failure to communicate” as I have had the same issues in most of my relationships throughout my life both in my marriage and even with my children. I didn’t realize for the longest till God revealed it to me through a very long process that most of it has come through me me being adopted when I was young. My adoptive parents were great so there is no sad story there of abuse or neglect in fact it was quite the opposite. They worked very hard to raise me with lots of love, kindness, and chances to make the most of life. Sadly I chose a very hard path and Satan used the adoption to create a wound so deep that my self worth was almost destroyed over time to the point that no matter how well I did in jobs or with people I would eventually find a way to sabotage it, thus creating hurt for me and those who cared deeply for me. For years without realizing it had happened I started believing that I was so unworthy and unlovable , I mean if my real mother didn’t love me enough to fight for me or keep me then nobody would, sooner or later they would see the flaw and leave too. Satan spent a long ,long time digging and planting that seed so deep in my heart and soul it had very strong roots that grew and grew to the point of me trying to end my life , more than once.
Moving forward ,I have been blessed by God in that He prepared someone for me who for 19 years has stood by me , fought by my side, fought for me even to the point of fighting me for me. She has carried our family at times when it was all I could do just to put one foot in front of the other. It has been through her love and Gods grace that I have found peace and the ability to heal. Her name is Kim and she is truly my Soul-Mate and the love of my life. She has helped me to trust again, to love again, to allow myself to feel again. Honestly I don’t know if I would be here now if it wasn’t for her.
I know this is a little long winded and I’m sorry but I just felt like I needed to share all of this despite how uncomfortable I am even as I write this. Todd if your reading this I know exactly the things you feel and the swirl of things that come and go within you as we have walked some of the very same roads. I mention this because it goes back to your post of “I can’t see why what I’m thinking is worth your time.” it’s very important because God gave you an Amazing gift and it’s not just music . Your music is amazing and Kim and I have followed you since we first met you several years ago. But you also have something to say as a teacher. You came to Columbus, Ga
not long ago ( please come back soon) with Kimber Rising , and Building 429 it was a great show but what was even more amazing was when you opened your Bible and took us on a journey through what God was walking you through. It was during that journey that I saw an example of how God walks and speaks with us when we truly reach for Him with passion and honesty. Since then I have gone much deeper in my own studying. One of the reasons I come here is because of the questions and thoughts you bring to the table. The topics at times point me in a direction that pushes me to dig deeper on my own and God never fails to show me something more that enriches my life.
So for me I would like to see you keep sharing your journey and those deep questions you bring out , if anything I would like to see you go deeper and engage more with those that post here and with your own thoughts on the questions you pose.
I totally affirm all that Brian said in his post. Whether you recognize it or not, the gift of teaching (and music) God gave you is amazing and much needed. When you share your heart–struggles, joys, questions, pain–it resonates with so many people. I especially like it when you share your thoughts about the songs you write–what and how God spoke to you in the creation of the lyrics. It’s great to hear what you’re reading and your insights into scripture as God teaches you something new. Because you have such a creative mind, your teaching contains a unique perspective that makes the stories in the Bible come alive! I think most people would enjoy your personal interaction and comments whenever you have time. For those who love you and have benefited so much from your teaching and music, it is wonderful to get to know you on a deeper level and share in your journey.
What are the songs going to be?
1. Love your neighbor
2. There is coming a day
3. Letting go
4…? I forgot.
But, are those going to be it, Todd?
But, your an amazing blogger. If you weren’t, I wouldn’t check your site, everyday.
I do not mean to borrow from Brenda, but I too affirm what she and Brian have mentioned as the reasons we, as your fans and friends want to hear what you have to say. Because of your sharing the wonderful work of World Vision, I now sponsor 8 year old Oliver in the Dominican republic. I wish you would share your personal experience with WV in the future.
Like Brian, my first time to “hear” you live was with Bldg 429 and Kimber Rising in Memphis. The Holy Spirit quickened my heart that night and it was not just the worship, but it was the devotional you gave before the concert from Matthew 5. Now what does this have to do with what you should blog, you might ask? You used to Podcast and I wish you still did, but you could share the same type of thoughts and teachings in your blog.
I think I hear you saying that you are much more comfortable communicating verbally. In fact you once said, I think in a blog (or at a concert), that your were used to saying what was on your heart when you were on tour and you left the pastors and youth directors to expand on the thought or answer the questions you posed. You can’t exactly do that with the blog I know, but I think I speak for many, we would like to hear what you have to say to the answers that are given. For instance, your comment about the response to your request for answers was great! WE like that!
Blessings,
Denise C.
