I love Christmas music. I always have. This year I’d love to hear what you’re listening to. What are your favorite Christmas records? Later this week we’ll do favorite Christmas songs and probably favorite versions by artists. But for today let’s do whole albums. What are you listening to this Christmas season. Mine start with…
Behold The Lamb of God – Andrew Peterson
Incredible. Can’t say enough about this record.
Christmas – Ten Out of Tenn
More people need to hear this record. A lot of fantastic artists recording old and new songs.
William the Angel – Rob Mathes
Wonderful. The song William the Angel is probably top two Christmas songs for me with O Holy Night. Love it.
Very Merry Christmas – Dave Barnes
A truly great new Christmas record out this year. I have really enjoyed it.
White Christmas – Bing Crosby
What is a list of Christmas albums without this? Iconic versions of White Christmas, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Silver Bells, It’s Beginning To Look Like Christmas, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Plus Silent Night and other classics.
Looking forward to hearing what you listen to. Hopefully I’ll find some new Christmas records to buy.
Todd
I almost hate to admit it, but the CD I’ve gravitated to most this year is the first Brian Setzer Christmas album. I love it!
Bing Crosby’s White Christmas … my favorite version of Silent Night ever. If not that then I’ll be listening to Agnew.
I agree. Andrew Peterson’s Behold the Lamb of God is amazing. It was actually by your recommendation a few years ago that I first checked it out.
My wife and I will be seeing the Behold the Lamb of God tour in Corsicana, TX this Sunday. Can’t wait!
We’d love to see you again in NE Texas/ NW Louisiana.
believe by 33 miles joy to the world is awsome & The christmas shoes by newsong. These are my fave christmas cds
Some of favorites are: “O Holy Night”, “Carol of the Bells”, and “There’s a Song in the Air.” It doesn’t really matter a whole lot to me who the artist is performing the song, but I really love Kutless’s version of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”. I also love your Christmas CD, which I have yet to listen this year (will definitely do that soon!). Btw, I’d love to hear your version of “O Holy Night”. That would be awesome!!
Phil Wickham’s “Songs for Christmas” that came out about a month ago is my new favorite. I’ve also always dug Shane & Shane’s Glory in the Highest.
1) Behold The Lamb of God – Andrew Peterson
2) Do You See What I See – Todd Agnew
3) Christmas – Jill Phillips & Andy Gullahorn
4) Love Came For Me – Shannon Wexelberg
5) Christmas Songs – Diana Krall
6) O Holy Night – Sara Groves
7) Live at Grey Matters vol 3 (Christmas Songs) – Jars Of Clay
I love Christmas music too. My top favorite three that I pull out way before most people in my family think is a reasonable time to listen to Christmas music are: Do You See What I See by Todd, Peace on Earth by Casting Crowns ( I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day and While You Were Sleeping are my favorites), and The Christmas Hope by NewSong.
I wish you were still on NewSong’s Christmas tour. We just saw them saturday with Newsboys and Kerrie Roberts. As always, it was an amazing Christmas show.
Other Christmas records I’m listening to are:
Absolute Favorite Christmas, the 2-disc set that includes Bethlehem Dawn.
SNOW by Go Fish–Christmas with a capital “C” is great!
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Phillips, Craig, and Dean–Repeat the Sounding Joy
Michael W. Smith–Christmastime
Third Day– Christmas Offerings
Timeless Christmas–Israel and New Breed
I have many more, but those have been in the rotation the most lately.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and God’s richest blessings in the coming year.
As of right now, literally, Trans Siberian Orchestra’s “The Lost Christmas Eve”. I’ll be listening to all four of their albums. 🙂
Other albums I’ve listened to so far:
City on a Hill’s “It’s Christmas Time”
Alathea’s “Christmas”
“Emmanuel A Musical Celebration of the Life of Christ”
I apologize to everyone for leaving off…
A Charlie Brown Christmas – Vince Guaraldi Trio
Todd
Let’s see, you’re heading to Seattle (I live just E of there) and I’m heading to Austin….. Maybe we’ll catch each other at the Monday night recovery meeting either the 27th or the 3rd. I’ll be out in Kingsland. It’s gonna be fun at 53 to ask dad for the keys to the car!!
I see we all have a lot of the same likes:
A Very Merry Christmas, Dave Barnes, is rockin’!
White Christmas, Bing Crosby, is classic.
Live at Grey Matters, JOC, I could listen to Dan sing all day.
There’s this other one, let me see. Oh, Do You See What I See?, by you!
A Christmas Collection, MercyMe
Christmas Is, Mark Harris, esp the duet with his daughter.
Anything that Amy Grant sings.
Top of my list –
1. DYSWIS…Listen to it completely at least once a day, every day starting in November.
2. Behold the Lamb, Andrew Peterson
3. Casting Crowns, Peace on Earth
4. Jars of Clay, Christmas Songs
5. Hillsong, Celebrating Christmas
6. Dan Fogelberg, The First Christmas
7. Kate and Anna McGarrigle – The McGarrigle Christmas Hour
I love Christmas music and listen to several various artists CD’s but I would have to say the top of the list would have to be White Christmas – Bing Crosby and a close second would be
Do you see what I see – Todd Agnew – after hearing you in concert Saturday it gave a whole new meaning to the Christmas album I’ve had for years, I’ve always enjoyed it but now I have a better vision. I have been enjoying Sara Groves – O Holy Night the last few days.
My 13-year-old daughter has quite a fixation (currently) on Celtic Thunder CHRISTmas–especially something about 1915– and Taylor Swift’s CHRISTmas cd, er, I mean “Holiday Collection;” while my wife is listening to Amy Grant’s 4th CHRISTmas collection; and I, on the other hand, listen long to hear “Do You See…” anywhere I can* –as it is the CHRISTmas story in a musical movement, not just christmasmusic (Powerful intro…and Christy Nockels does an awesome job of sharing Mary’s spirit…and Bethlehem Dawn!…actually it’s all great) [*”anywhere” = radio and internet…I formerly had a copy of the cd, ’til I left it on the soundboard at church and it was ‘absorbed’…somewhere].
Other inclusions: Casting Crowns, especially, “I Heard the Bells..’ –such melancholic depth to Longfellow’s revived Americana; Jars of Clay; Barlow Girl; Jackie Evancho’s “O Holy Night” –what a spirited voice…hope she can hold onto it!
OF SPECIAL NOTE, a 1995 CHRISTmas cd I happened upon, amongst the detritus that I deal with on a daily basis, this past summer: “Silent Night – Christmas at St. Gregory’s” by the Windsong Chamber Choir –an amazing uncommercial, 66 minutes (18 tracks) of choral sound. From the liner notes: “Recorded in the Abbey Chapel of St. Gregory’s College, Shawnee, Oklahoma. No audio enhancement or special processing of any type was used, the natural acoustics of the Chapel gave the depth and reverberation heard on this recording. The Chapel walls are solid brick, the floors are hard tile, and the ceiling is hard plaster, thus no absorbent materials exist in the room. The ensemble was arranged in mixed quarters in a semicircular concert style except No. 5, where the men and women were placed in the opposing arms of the transepts…” (Q: Didn’t you once confess to spending a little time somewhere near Shawnee, OK…?)
I Love Christmas music!…and all of December is devoted to the many albums I listen to….faves are…Amy Grant Emanuel, the whole trilogy of Christmas by her: Chicago 25 Christmas; Moody Blues-A Winter’s Tale; Josh Groban- Ave Maria; Mannheim Steamroller- Carol Of The Bells; Celtic Women- Silent Night;Olivia Newton-John- Christmas Wish…there are so many more…enjoy the season, it’s a beautiful time of the year.
How can I choose, I love them all. If I had to, I would pick from the following: An Angel Came Down, Old City Bar, and This Christmas Day by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, God With Us /We Three Kings sung by you, and Bethlehem Dawn on your Christmas cd sung by Michael O’Brien. These are my all-time favorites that I feel God’s presence in the most during this busy time of year.
I have just “discovered” you and I LOVE the song “God with us” I cannot stop listening to it!! I really could not speak the first time I heard it and it brought tears to my eyes….very powerful. Thank you for doing something that can bring the Message of hope to so many in such a moving way.
3 or 4 years ago you came to O’side Calvary Church. I had seen you at Spirit West Coast Del Mar maybe 2 times. Todd I have heard this Cd for 2 or 3 years, Do you hear what I hear, but never even looked at the insert in the Jewel Case….OMG!!!! I dont know how to tell you how blessed I am, because of you. Dont even know if you look at this blog. I am an Army Nurse in Germany, I just facebooked everyone to get your CD at the Christian Bookstore. So weired how sometimes you hear and sometimes your dont.
I am from San Diego……why dont you get here more often???
I Love You and who you are and your amazing voice. My daughter is in voice lessons with an awesome spirit filled teacher….she knows you cuz of me! You are sorta not on the Radar…….thats ok……those who love you and your craft will promote you….but it is really the Lord Our God who has given you this amazing gift……Thanks!!!
Harry Connick Jr. – Harry for the Holidays
Chris Tomlin – Glory In the Highest
Christy Nockels – Angel’s Lullaby
And without trying to sound too much like a fan, a couple of songs from your Christmas album have been especially powerful to me over the last couple of years. In particular…
Did You Know
In the First Light
Thanks for allowing God to use you to share such inspiring music with the world Todd.
Glory to GOD and a Merry Christmas to all!
This year… GRACE LIKE RAIN… as my grandmother passed last evening. Her favorite song will and has always been Amazing Grace. We were blessed that she always loved to hear what music her kids and grandkids loved to listen to… we introduced her to Grace Like Rain. This is our Christmas anthem this year… Thank you Todd.
Oh yeah!
I almost forgot to include “God with Us”!
The line from that song that asks the question, “how do you prepare to meet the Lord” was recently used as a starter question in our small group Bible study here at God’s Garage!
Thanks again!
I love Third Day’s version of Emmanuel on the Essential Energy Christmas CD.
Emmylou Harris’ Light of the Stable CD – she has the voice of an angel! When I hear “Light of the Stable”, I get goosebumps all over and sing along Hallelujah!
The new Essential Christmas Collection just released late 2010.
The first two Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD’s.
