God appears to Moses in a burning bush. We’ve heard the story a lot. And then Moses gives God a lot of excuses as to why He shouldn’t choose him. But Father knows best. In the end, He uses Moses and his brother, Aaron. So God instructs Moses to tell Aaron all the things God has told him, so Aaron can be the spokesman. But look at what God promises them.
“You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do” (Ex. 4:15 ESV).
God will be with their mouths. Can you imagine what it would be like for God to be with your mouth? For Him to control everything you say? For you to be able to speak with confidence because God is in your words. What a gift. And I believe it’s one we still have. God has placed His Spirit inside us; we are His temple. Let’s pray together today that God will be with our mouths, that every song we sing, every word we speak will be His.
Your thoughts?
Todd
That is some very good insight. If we would all let God use us to speak, then we would accomplish more in His Name.
I see you like to blog. I have my own weblog, http://www.xanga.com/chris4christ2005 where I share my thoughts about Christ. It is my calling. I am a writer for God. If you would, please read it and tell me what you think……. by the way, i am looking forward to the show tommorrow.
Great job of mixing dry wit, great music and a strong dose of how Great our God is in the concert last week in Brandon, FL. I was surprised to see you, in person, signing shirts and CDs and being so accessible before the concert. It made me wonder what it’s really like to tour day after day, smiling at all the strange people. (Like the guy sitting next to me, for example, you may remember him. I took a picture for him of the two of you…and you thought I was the strange one…perspective, my friend, perspective…) I remember the old RUSH tune where the lyric is something like, “I can’t pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend…” I know that we are to love our Christian brothers and sisters, but that doesn’t necessarily make us all extroverts. I have the autographs of two Christian artists: yours and Rich Mullin’s. Somehow, I don’t picture people who write with such depth as being the extroverted type. Does hanging around people drain you, or energize you? That’s my question.
I know first hand that God speaks through us. There have been many times when teaching a Bible study that I knew for sure the words coming out of my mouth did not originate in my own mind. It was an awesome, humbling feeling. But if God were “with my mouth” every time I spoke, I think my words would contain more blessings and fewer complaints so that people would be built up instead of torn down. It would also affect my tone and passion. There would be more understanding of when to speak up or shut up and listen.
I wonder what major surgery needs to happen in my heart for God to speak through my mouth?
Thanks for sharing Brenda. And Ben, I went to Todd’s concert last night and it was a real blessing!! I thank God that he supplies all of our needs. Todd autographed my CD and put Phillipians 4:6 next to his signature. That verse was very important to me in a very dark time in my life. Nothing was going well for me, and I was starting to wonder if my life would ever be better for me again. My Grandma referred me to Phillipians 4, and for a solid week i studied nothing but that chapter, and although things did not get instantly better, I figured out that God gives us the right balance between good things that happen to us and bad things that happen to us. God does not give us more than we can handle. Only he knows what we need, and we should depend solely on Him!!
