Hey everyone. I was thinking about some things and thought I would come to
you all. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been trying to write more lately, I
mean, blog more lately. I’m writing the Promises blogs when we have devos,
but when we’re off, I don’t always have a topic so I end up writing the “We
had mashed potatoes for dinner” blogs that I am never a fan of.
Anyway, I thought I would come to you for help. I want you guys to write some
questions you’d like to hear a comment or discussion about. It might be
theology; it might be what’s your favorite candy bar. It might be music
questions, story question, industry questions, personal stuff, the door is
wide open. If you can think of a question, it’s fair game. Now I’m not
promising to answer all the questions, but I’d like to start talking about
what you want to hear about. So let me know when you have an idea.
Todd
Todd-
I don’t have a question so much as I have a comment. I had heard a few of your songs here and there, but I became a Todd Agnew fan on July 30, 2008.
My brother, a year older than me, suddenly and unexpectedly died from a massive heart attack at the age of 48. In the midst of the total devastation of those days, I happened to come across the “Martyr Song.” That song, and its description of being in the presence of God made a bigger impact on me than I can say right now.
I am thankful for God using your gift for music to be able to point me back to the proper prespective; off my pain and on to God.
So… Thank you.
PS. I do have a question after all. Do you consider yourself a musician who ministers to people, or a minister who uses music to touch people?
Todd,
I wanted to first off thank you for having the courage to listen to God’s call and use your talent to guide the rest of us. Your lyrics and music speak to my heart. This was especially true one morning a few weeks ago. I’m a night nurse, and had been taking care of this patient for 2 nights. The patient mericifully passed away during the 2nd night. I had held his hand for 2 nights and was a bit attached to him, yet I couldn’t cry when he died. On my way home, I had your CD in my car and Martyr’s Song came on. It was what my heart needed to cry for my patient, feel the grief that I had been fighting, and then tearfully rejoice that he went home to be with his wife and our Lord. I can’t tell you how many times your music makes me stop to think or touches my heart in some way. So, thank you for using your talents.
I have two questions. One – do you feel that going to church is a requirement, or do you think a person can properly praise and worship God in their own way?
Two – what is your favorite part of being married and a stepfather?
God bless you and all you do.
Todd, I have always had a great appreciation for your music. In fact, it is about the only contemporary Christian music I will listen to. Thank you for your ministry.
Here is a question: Scholars recognize the early Church councils at Hippo and Carthage as the first instances in which the New Testament canon was officially ratified. How were the bishops at Hippo and Carthage able to determine the correct canon of Scripture, in spite of the fact that they believed all the distinctively Catholic doctrines such as the apostolic succession of bishops, authority of the Pope, the sacrifice of the Mass, Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist, baptismal regeneration, etc?
Also, if Protestant scholars recognize those councils as authoritative for NT canon, how is it that they don’t recognize the Old Testament canon those same councils also ratified — the canon used by the Catholic Church today (such as the book of Maccabees, Judith, Sirach, etc.)
Thanks for considering those questions, as I’d love to hear some honest thoughts on them! May God bless you now and always.
i’ve been a step dad to a wonderful little girl for 5 years. i’m wondering how parenthood has impacted your life and if we can anticipate hearing it reflected in your future music. your music is real and i really appreciate that. by real, i mean that you don’t paint life as being instantly perfect after accepting Christ. life still has its challenges and you address them in a very real way. i appreciate your raw honesty and your obedience to the call that Christ has placed on your life!
Todd, beautiful collection of songs on Need. On the son “The Love of God” I am blown away. The third verse will be written on a place that I will see it often. The last time I saw you was at Highpoint in Memphis. You may remember, I followed you to your house to get a keyboard. Looking forward to seeing you when you come back to Memphis. I dont know why there was a parting of ways with Highpoint but its obvious something went wrong. I have fond memories of a raspy voiced, barefooted worship leader inviting the Holy Spirit into many Sunday morns. Will Joy open for you in Memphis? I just left the Skillet concert and it was killer. Your boy ripped up the violin like always. Take care, Steve
I just want to tell you that the song ‘I want to be like my Jesus’ Touches my heart so much. Also “Grace like Rain”.
Thank you for your obedience to God and following the call He has put on your life. You have touched my heart. Thank you!
Karen
Hey Todd…your music has really hit home with me because of the underlying feeling that you’re someone who has ‘been there and done it’. How did you come to Christ?
I don’t know if you wanted us to stick to just one question so I’m going to push the envelope a bit. I’m a relatively new Christian so I’ve still got a truckload to learn…can you explain to me what people mean by the ’emerging church’?
And as I’ve already bugged you on YouTube etc about…when are you planning on coming down to Australia?!! (don’t make me get a whole campaign going because I will! lol )
End of the day mate, just want to thank you for your ministry…it’s really hit home with me as it has no doubt with many others on here. All the best with Need mate….
-Dan
Todd, I learned to love your music when we unexpectedly lost our young minister a few years ago. Grace Like Rain is one of my favorite songs. This past May my 22 yr old son was killed in a kayaking accident and your music has helped me cope the past five months! God is awesome and he is working through you! Thanks for providing the world with music worth listening to.
Question? …how did you come to write Grace Like Rain? You may have answered this previously but I am new to the blog
Todd,
Thank you show much for allowing God to use you through music. Your music speaks to me in ways that most artists cannot, and I know that that is God speaking through you. My wife and I recently saw you in Joplin, MO, and had a great time. We were really moved when you sang “Did you mean me”. I was wondering, what is your favorite song to sing live?
Thanks
Todd, thank you for following God’s calling, my husband & I saw you last year in Mesa,AZ and have tickets for your tour that comes here in November.
Your new CD touches me even more than before – which I did not think possible as God has used your music to answer questions for me several times- when I heard “Did you mean me?” I was moved to tears. I sometimes feel that I am not hearing or am fighting God’s calling for me and wanted to know how we know or determine it’s God calling and not of ourselves?
God Bless and look forward to seeing you again!
This evening in church a pastor from Rwanda spoke. I have known a little about the atrosities that have taken place in their country, which brought me to be especially interested in this pastor’s teaching.
In his talk he mentioned how he had asked his congregation if Jesus was a lier. They replied, “No!” Again he asked, “Is Jesus a lier?” They replied “No!” And then the pastor said, “Then you all have failed Him. You need to repent of not believing His promises.”
He quoted 2 Peter 1:2-4. He advised his congregation to not invest in past pain, even some of the children had machete marks on their arms, but to invest in hope.
My questions are: Why do you think it is so difficult to believe in the promises of Christ? It is best to tell a child who has experienced torture and pain that they shouldn’t think about it, that they should surrender their pain to Christ, and focus on the future and hope? Is it a sin to think about their past pain? Do they need to repent of it? Why is it so easy to dwell on past hurts and pains, and so hard to focus on hope? What would help Christians live focused on hope, on the victory that comes from Christ, and to walk in the power of Christ’s promises?
Hey Todd,
First let me start by saying I am a hugh fan of your ministry, that being said, I need your help with something.
I am working on an outreach ministry myself, by helping to give under-priveledged kids musical instruments and lessons completely free of charge. They will have to work for them of course by helping with an outreach project of their own, and they will have to attend at least 3 services a month for “X” amount of months to be eligible. The first and foremost objective with this ministry is to not only get kids in church and teach them about Christ, but also to get them involved through music. I am recruiting musicians from several local churches to help with the lessons and devotions to accomodate a greater number of students and hopefully greater change in the community. I am currently working on a website for the project, I think we will call it something like “Christ’s Instruments” or Instruments for Christ” or something like that. We will do a short bible study with the kids on what it means to be an instrument of Christ. I hope to have everything up and running by early 2010 if not sooner.
My wife is a United Methodist minister serving the Western North Carolina Conference. We presently serve 2 churches in the Gastonia district (near Charlotte) Bethesda UMC and Cramer Memorial UMC.
I really don’t like asking for donations, but we do still need a few beginner level acoustic guitars and accessories, but I fully understand if you can’t help with that, though all donations will be credited to a legitimate charitable organization as I am doing everything through the church. If you have any resources or suggestions that you would be willing to share I would be very grateful.
I won’t bore you with further details, but if this is something you would like to help with you can reach me by e-mail at hounddogmusic123@yahoo.com and I will gladly get you more information.
thank you for your time,
Ben Kennedy
I just found out you got MARRIED! Can you please talk all about it and post some pictures up? I’d love to hear the stories and such. Thanks!
Hello~ I have asked some odd (but important)questions in the past of you and have always recieved a reply so I am hoping this will be the same.
First a comment…Love your talent! AMAZING!
Second- not so important but is there any chance of a box set or greatest hits? I am really wanting a whole collection…
🙂
Just an idea.
May you and yours be blessed in his pressence!
Thank you~ Vicki
If peach cobbler wasn’t around any more and you had to pick only one dessert to have for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Totally kidding. That’s a radio question.
How much of a difference have you noticed in your writing since being married and becoming a Dad? Are there new themes permeating, or are they just new twists on standards (for want of a better word)?
And, how are you, man? How can we pray for you?
In response to carmel’s first question, that would be Lemon Bars, wouldn’t it? ;-p
Todd, thank you for being who you are and not being like everyone else. Thank you for listening to God and allowing Him to use you. I like how you just tell it like it is and speak truth.. I am doing a study of Isaiah and was reminded of God telling Isaiah in Ch. 8 v. 11 “For thus the Lord spoke to me with mighty power and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people,…” He was telling Isaiah to be willing to stand apart. It’s so easy to get caught up in the world and to try to please the world instead of God.
OK, I have a question about the recording process that I have often wondered about: When you have many people on one song, for example In The First Light on DYSWIS, how is that process done? Do the other people sing the whole song and then you take the parts of the song you need from them and record/mix that in or is it done some other way?
Hey I just wanted to say that I love your music and when I see you perform I can truly see that God has a hold of your heart. I love that you don’t make your music only about you and totally not have your heart set on God. I just recently attended one your shows in Denver and you just gave me some awesome new perspectives on things and really opened my heart up to what true worship is like. I wanted to encourage you to keep on going and to not let the worries of this life get to you like many of us do. When they come just give them to God and He will take of Him. So thanks again just for showing me some things and for being so humble with your life. Keep up the good work!
Hey Todd- My question is kind of difficult to phrase, but basically it’s how do you live out your beliefs when meeting other Christians who don’t share them? I struggle with meeting other believers who look at a lot of issues very differently than I do. I don’t question their faith or their belief that they are doing the right thing, but on big issues we can differ so much. I’ve had conversations with Christians about prosperity, and I asked, “where did Jesus say that?” because He didn’t say “come be rich and live a comfortable life.” I was wondering what your experiences or struggles with that have been, if any, and how to discuss issues like that with other believers. Your music blesses me daily. Thank you!
Todd,
I just wanted to tell you that as a pastor, I have a great appreciation for a Christian who knows what it is that God has created them for, then follows that with all of their hearts with no apologies. Your music is outstanding.
My wife is a huge, huge fan of yours. We have come to most of your concerts that are in the Clarksville, Nashville area. We have met you a couple of times after the concerts and you seem extremely down to earth.
My request is that you could send my wife an email, just a few words of encouragment. I think that would mean the world to her. We have been through some rough things with our family the last couple of years and with her being a huge fan of yours, I think she would be appreciative to hear some encouragement from you. Her email address is melissa0may@yahoo.com. Of course her name is Melissa.
Also I am a worship leader at a small church plant called “The Carpenter’s House.” I love to play and write music. I have written a song for you. I do not want any recognition or any money whatsoever, just would like to know if you would be interested in hearing it and singing it. Thanks a million and keep doing what you are doing.
In Christ
Tim May
